Last summer we visited the Ardennes in the eastern part of Belgium. Unfortunately, the weather was very bad but we were able to visit some limestonecaves and a safari park and do some mountainbiking in the forests nearby. |
We've been to Scotland and London a couple of years ago, but before the digital era. Consequently, we cannot show the pictures since we haven't digitalized them. In September 2006 I visited Edinburgh (Scotland) for a conference meeting with my digital camera. It's a very nice city with a great history embodied by the impressive Edinburgh Castle. |
Part of my family lives in France close to Geneva (Swiss). Close to the Jura and the Alps it's a great place to pass some time. Although we have been in other parts of France multiple times, we can't show you any pictures, because we were not yet using a digital camera at that time. |
This is the small country where we were born and still live. We really love to live in Amsterdam, because it's a very vibrant and beautiful city. It is not too big and everything is within reach by bike. The Netherlands are of course famous for their windmills and cow filled grasslands. Naturewise, Holland has many water associated birds. Holland is a major stronghold for all kinds of migratory birds, including many geese species, that gather in the thousands in winter. |
In August 2006 Rianne visited Vienna for a conference meeting. Vienna has a great history which still can be seen in several buildings and musea. It is especially famous for the Wiener Oper and Schloss Schönbrunn is one of the most important cultural heritage sites of Austria. |
In april 2008 we went for a 3 week camping holiday to Andalucia in southern Spain. We flew in to Malaga where we rented a car for these weeks. Andalucia contains many cultural highlights like cities as Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada but at the same time beautiful natural parks that are superb for birding and hiking, including the Sierra Nevada, Sierra Cazorla and Parque Macional Doñana. Despite the fact that the weather didn't always cooporate as much as we liked, Andalucia totally came up to our expectations. |
Italy was our holiday destiny in the summer of 2002. We went by train and carried a tent to go camping in Tuscany and Rome. Tuscany, as the heart of the European Renaissance in the 15th century, was one big cultural and artisitic feast. The Beautiful churches, museums and squares combined with perfect weather, great food and good atmosphere made it a execllent holiday destination. Rome is a destination on its own and the one week we were there, was too short. That's not surprising when you think this city has been the center of the first the Roman empire and later of the catholic church. As a result there's just so much history cramped in one city. The imposing Saint Peter cathedral and the Sixtinian chapel by Michelangelo m in Vatican city dont need any introduction I suppose. Although summer was probably not the most suitible time of year to visit these cities, we thoroughly enjoyed it. |
